Common questions

Claims questions.

Should I call HIFA or my insurer first?
Either works. Reporting directly to your insurer is usually the fastest route. If you’re not sure who that is, call us first.
What information should I have ready?
Your policy number, when it happened, a short description and any photos. Bring what you have — the rest can follow.
What if I need emergency repairs?
Take reasonable steps to prevent further damage where it is safe, keep the receipts, and photograph the damage before major repairs.
Who decides whether my claim is covered?
The insurer reviews the claim and makes the coverage decision based on the policy and circumstances. HIFA can help you understand your policy and direct questions to the appropriate claims contact.
Can HIFA help if I have questions during the claim?
Yes. Call us at any point and we can help you understand the process or find the right person to speak with.
