Our story

HIFA was built on a simple idea: insurance should be easier to understand and easier to act on. From Burlington, we help families and businesses across the western GTA compare options, understand the differences and choose coverage with confidence.

As an independent Ontario brokerage, we’re not tied to one insurer. We take the time to understand what you need, approach the markets that fit, and explain the options clearly.

You’ll work with a licensed broker from quote through renewal — and when something changes or you need help with a claim, you know who to call.

Tell us what you need

Start with a short conversation or intake form. Tell us what you want insured, what you have now and anything that has changed.

We explain your options

We walk you through the differences — what each option covers, where the limits sit and what you give up or gain at different price points.

The people

Credentials establish the brokerage. The people determine the experience.

Senior brokers remain involved from the first conversation through placement and ongoing service.

Hafsa Bashir

Principal Broker · RIBO licensed

Hafsa leads HIFA across commercial and personal insurance. Her approach starts with understanding what actually needs to be insured before recommending coverage.

She stays closely involved in complex files and in the details that can make the difference when coverage is needed.

“Understanding the risk comes before recommending the coverage.”

Irfan Usman

Insurance Broker · RIBO licensed

Irfan works closely with clients to understand their operations, review existing coverage and identify gaps that are easy to miss.

His focus is making complex insurance decisions clearer and helping clients understand the details before they choose.

“The important gaps usually appear in the details.”

Common questions

The questions people ask before they call

Straight answers to the questions people usually want resolved before starting a quote.

Does using a broker cost more than going direct?
HIFA is typically compensated by the insurer, so there is generally no separate broker fee for standard personal insurance. If a separate fee applies to a specific commercial placement, we explain it clearly before you proceed.
How long does a commercial quote actually take?
Straightforward commercial risks can sometimes be quoted within a day or two once we have the information insurers need. More complex businesses — including manufacturing, food, warehousing, event venues and specialty risks — can take longer because more underwriting is involved. We’ll tell you what to expect at the start.
What if my business is unusual or has had claims?
Both are normal. Unusual operations mean the submission needs to explain the risk properly rather than force it into a standard class code. Prior claims mean we need to show what changed afterwards. Neither is a reason not to have the conversation — they are reasons to have it with a broker rather than a web form.
Do I have to commit to anything to get a quote?
No. A quote is an offer of terms, not a contract. Nothing binds until you accept the terms and coverage is confirmed in writing. Submitting a form on this site does not create coverage.
Can HIFA handle both my business and my personal insurance?
Yes, and it is one of the more useful things we do. Business owners routinely carry exposures that sit across the boundary — a vehicle used for both, a home office, personal guarantees, equipment stored at home. Seeing both sides is how those gaps get found.
